How can you extend the life of your tires?
How can I protect my tires? I just got new ones because I didn't take very good care of my last set; I don't want to repeat my mistakes with this new set.
“Regularly maintaining your vehicle and its parts can be overwhelming, so understandably, some things fall to the wayside. Luckily, there are a few things you can do to extend the life of your new tires.
First, you’ll want to be aware of your driving. When you put unnecessary force on your tires, they wear faster. Some driving habits can wear down your tire tread quickly, like:
- Braking and accelerating quickly
- Taking sharp turns
- Hitting curbs
If you wear down your tire treads, you run the risk of slipping or skidding in wet weather. It can also be more difficult to brake quickly.
Apart from your driving, regular maintenance of tires is also important. Maintaining your tires looks like:
- Monitoring inflation levels and maintaining the recommended PSI for your tires and vehicle
- Checking regularly for any damage
- Wheel alignment
Having your tires rotated and aligned regularly can extend the life of your tires significantly. If your state requires mandatory inspections every year, they will also check your tires.
Anytime you take your car in for maintenance, inquire about the state of your tires. You should also consult your car’s owner’s manual to determine the recommended maintenance schedule for your vehicle.
Poor or irregular maintenance of your tires does pose a driving risk. You may slide in the rain or ice, or breaking will be less effective. If you get into an accident becase of your tires, you want to ensure you have the best coverage to protect you and other drivers.

After a bit of a wild youth, I'm currently working on rebuilding my credit. My old car is on its last legs, so I will need to purchase a vehicle in the next couple months, but will a car insurance company look at my credit score? Will I have to pay more on my insurance for old mistakes that I'm working hard to fix?
