How can we do a car wash?
I’m running a fundraising event for my daughter’s theater club and all the kids really want to do a car wash. I figured why not since it's still pretty warm here in Florida? But I’m worried we won’t make enough money. Any tips on how to do a car wash?

It’s awesome that you’re organizing an event to help fund your child’s club, and a car wash is a great way to do it!
Besides gathering the necessary supplies, make sure that you plan several weeks ahead to give everyone proper time to prepare. Keep in mind that Saturdays are usually the best time to host these kinds of events. And be sure to have a backup date in case of bad weather.
Next, you’ll need to find a good location. A large parking lot off a main road is always a safe bet, but you’ll have to get permission from the owner and ensure that there are no other events taking place there that day.
Also, check with your town to make sure that the event will not cause any issues or violate any codes.
For the event, you’ll need:
- Several large buckets (roughly 5 gallons)
- Car soap
- Sponges
- Towels
- Large brushes
- A cash box (or set up electronic payment with Venmo)
To get the kids and parents involved in the planning process, ask them to help advertise the event by making posters and hanging them around town and/or posting on social media. Ask that they specify when and where the car wash is taking place, why, how much it will cost, and any other details you see fit.
Day of, provide a car-washing tutorial and assign your fundraising volunteers a specific job. With proper direction, all your customers should leave happy with clean cars! And your club should end the day with lots of donations.
