How can I turn off the VTM-4 on a Honda Pilot?

I noticed the VTM-4 system on my Honda Pilot SE has been coming on somewhat regularly, and I’m not sure why. Is there a way I can easily turn off the VTM-4 system?

The VTM-4 system on a Honda Pilot SE is entirely automatic, always active, and should not require any driver interaction. However, if you notice it comes on unexpectedly, there are ways to disengage the VTM temporarily.
To turn off the VTM-4 on your Honda Pilot, you can use any of the following methods:
  • While the car is running, press and hold the VTM-4 button, typically located on the dashboard next to the radio.
  • Shift the drive selector lever to P and then back to D while stopped.
  • Turn the ignition switch to the lock position, wait a bit, and then restart the engine.
The VTM-4 is your car’s four-wheel-drive system, which distributes engine torque to the appropriate drive axle depending on the available traction. If the system is coming on at strange times when it shouldn’t, bring your car to a mechanic because it could indicate a more severe problem.
At the mechanic, you can make the most of your wait and help offset the repair cost by using Jerry to save on your car insurance.
