Why Is The VTM-4 Light On In My Honda Pilot?

The VTM-4 light keeps turning on in my Honda Pilot. I don’t know what that light even means. Should I be worried? Why would that light be on?

The VTM-4 light on a
Honda Pilot
 indicates that the Variable Torque Management 4-Wheel-Drive System (VTM-4) is on. So, you probably don’t need to worry about this light.
The VTM-4 system on your Pilot turns on and off automatically. If it comes on, it means that your car has lower traction at that particular moment and your torque management system is working to compensate for adverse road conditions.
If the VTM-4 light is staying on continuously despite normal road conditions, you might have accidentally hit the VTM-4 LOCK, which will keep it on no matter the conditions.
You shouldn’t drive with the VTM-4 LOCK on unless you need it. To turn it off:
  • Step 1: Pull over
  • Step 2: Shift into park
  • Step 3: Stop the engine. 
When you restart your car and shift into drive, the light should turn off after a few seconds.
