How can I reset the self-leveling suspension in my BMW X5?

I’ve noticed that my suspension has been acting up a little bit recently, but I’m not sure if I should fix it myself or take it into the shop. I’m not the best with car repair, but I don’t want to spend money at an auto repair shop that I don’t need to. What’s the best way to reset the self-leveling suspension in my BMW X5?

Follow these steps to perform a
BMW X5
self-leveling air suspension reset:
  • Step 1: Disconnect the battery cables.
  • Step 2: Touch the battery cables together.
  • Step 3: Let the cables sit touching each other for 10 minutes.
  • Step 4: Reconnect the cables to the battery.
Take the following steps if you’re just looking to adjust your suspension:
  • Step 1: Use the toggle lever on your center console.
  • Step 2: Select “Sport Mode”.
  • Step 3: Press the button on the lower side of your tailgate.
Lastly, follow these steps to turn off the air suspension altogether:
  • Step 1: Turn the car on.
  • Step 2: Hold the suspension level switch down for exactly seven seconds.
The green dashed line indicating suspension levels should be gone from the dash display, indicating that you’ve successfully disabled your suspension.
When in doubt: Hopefully, you’ve found the solution you need on the options provided here. However, it might be best to
take your car to a mechanic
if you’re still having trouble.
