I’ve had a crack on my windshield for a while. I recently noticed it's starting to get bigger. How can I keep the crack from spreading?

“Don’t worry, windshield damage is common. Depending on the size, there are a few different methods you can use to stop a car window crack from spreading.
  • If the crack is small, you can use super glue or clear nail polish to fill it in. But before you do, be sure to clean the area with auto glass cleaner and paper towels.
  • For a slightly larger crack, purchase a windshield repair kit at a local auto parts store or online. Heads up—the kits usually require you to drill a very small hole into the top layer of the glass. You will then have to fill the hole with specialized resin that is designed to help reduce stress on the windshield and stop cracks from forming.
However, the most dependable way to ensure that the crack will not spread is to leave it to the auto glass professionals. Schedule an appointment and the glass shop will determine the best course of action.
  • If the crack or chip is shorter than three inches, it can be filled in quickly and at an affordable price.
  • If the damage is too extensive, the windshield must be replaced. Fortunately, this should be covered by
    comprehensive coverage
, so long as you’ve added it to your
