How can I start my car if the starter is bad?

When I tried to start my car to head to work this morning, the lights came on but the engine wouldn't start. I also heard a faint clicking noise. I think the starter is bad, but I need to get to the office. Can I start my car somehow?

Even if your has a bad starter, you can still fire it up. However, the problem will persist until you visit a mechanic.
To start your car if the starter is bad, try the methods below:
  • Examine the connection to the battery. If one of the connections has come undone or is loose, tighten the connection using a ratchet or wrench.
  • Check for corrosion that can interrupt the battery’s connection and clean the terminal heads using an equal measure of water and baking soda.
  • Jumpstart the car
to try to get it running.
  • If you have a manual transmission, push start the car.
Hopefully, one of the above methods will get your car started and have you off to work in no time. Afterward, call your mechanic and have the problem diagnosed and fixed by a professional.
