How can I report my car insurance company?

A month ago, a tree fell on my garage during a storm and pretty much destroyed my car. I pay for the proper comprehensive coverage to deal with this kind of damage, so I made the claim. Everything seemed to be going well for the first week—and then suddenly I stopped getting any response. I’m incredibly unsatisfied with my service at this point, and would like to report my company and make a complaint. How can I report my insurance company?

I’m very sorry to hear that you’re in this situation—there’s nothing worse than not being heard when you have every right to be. To start the process of reporting your car insurance company reach out to people of authority in the company via email. This way, they cannot claim that they did not receive contact from you; you will have emails to prove it.
You may receive a response from company higher-ups. If so, that’s great—but if you don’t, your next best option is to contact your state’s insurance commissioner and department of insurance. Your state insurance commissioner is a public official who regulates the insurance industry in each state. They will investigate your issue and initiate the steps to resolve it. The commissioner is meant to enforce your state’s rules, so they can force insurance companies to pay unpaid claims and take action to resolve a policyholder’s complaint.
Contacting your state insurance commissioner to file a complaint may be slightly different in each state, but the best way to start would be with the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) website. From here, you can connect to the insurance commissioner for your state and follow the provided instructions to properly file your complaint.
