How can I replace a 2006 Honda Pilot headlight assembly?

My daily driver is a 2006 Honda Pilot SE, and one of the front headlights recently went out. I tried replacing the bulb, but it didn’t solve the problem. My mechanic friend said I need to replace the whole assembly and could probably do it myself to save some money. He ordered me the piece, but how do you replace a Honda Pilot headlight assembly?

That’s nice of your friend to help you out, but to replace a headlight assembly, it helps to have some prior mechanical knowledge.
However, the process isn’t overly complicated. So if you want to proceed, here’s what you’ll need to replace a 2006 Honda Pilot headlight assembly:
  • The replacement parts
  • 10-mm wrench
  • Phillips and flathead screwdrivers
  • Pushpin removal tool
Here’s what you’ll need to do:
  • Open the hood and remove the radiator cover using a flathead screwdriver.
  • Remove the front bumper by undoing the screws and bolts holding it in place. The fasteners, bolts, and screws are located in the front wheel wells, beneath the radiator cover, and on the underside of the front bumper.
  • Undo the connectors, fasteners, and bolts holding the front headlight assembly in place.
  • Remove the old headlight assembly.
  • Install the new headlight assembly, and put your car back together in the reverse order you took it apart.
When replacing the assembly, remember not to force any of the pieces or you’ll risk breaking them, which could end up costing you more. Additionally, if you realize you’re not equipped to handle this job, call a mechanic.
