How can I repair a seat in my car?

I’m a do-it-yourself weekend warrior kind of guy and this past weekend while driving back from the hardware store with some sheet metal in my backseat, I accidentally ripped a hole in the cloth seat. Is there a way I can repair this?

Sometimes there is collateral damage with these weekend projects, but you can fix this!
To repair a small tear in a cloth car seat, you can either sew the tear closed yourself or use some glue and cloth fibers to close it up.
To sew the tear shut, you will need a curved needle and some heavy-duty thread. You are going to want to double-thread it through your curved needle and place a running stitch at least every ½ inch. If you are missing any of the seat’s cushion, you can fill it with some padding that can be purchased at most craft stores. Be careful not to pull the thread too tight or it may break and you will have to start over.
To use the glue and fiber method, you are going to need craft glue and a razor. First, gather your cloth fibers. You can shave some cloth fibers from the edge of the hole or from your car’s carpet, these will be used to match the repair to the current color and condition of the cloth seats in your vehicle. Once you have the fibers, fill the hole with your craft glue so it is level with the rest of the seat, add the fibers on top, and let dry.
If the hole is larger than two inches, it is recommended you have it professionally repaired. Repairs for a torn seat are typically around $35 but can vary based on the size and severity of the damage.
