How can I remove masking tape from car paint?

My daughter and her neighborhood friends recently graduated from high school and are off to college in the fall, so the neighborhood had a little parade to celebrate their achievement. We all decorated our vehicles and drove around the block a few times. Now that I’m cleaning the car, I realized tape may not have been the best option for hanging decorations. How can I remove masking tape from my car without damaging the paint?

Congratulations to your daughter! That’s quite an accomplishment, and the parade sounds like a nice way to celebrate.
Pulling tape off your vehicle can damage the car’s paint. But thankfully, masking tape is relatively easy to remove and is not too harsh on the paint. To safely remove the tape from your vehicle, you will need adhesive remover and a microfiber or soft cloth. Once you have the supplies, follow these steps:
  • Apply the adhesive remover to the cloth. You want enough remover to cover and saturate the tape thoroughly.
  • Press and hold a wet cloth against the masking tape for at least 30 seconds or until the tape because saturated.
  • Gently peel back any tape that has loosened.
  • Using the cloth, start gently scrubbing away the leftover tape and apply more adhesive remover as needed.
Alternatively, you can use a hairdryer to heat and loosen the adhesive if you have trouble removing it with a wet rag or adhesive remover.
Now that your daughter is off to college, it’s an excellent time to review your
