How can I register my new car in Kentucky?
How do you register a car in the state of Kentucky? I left my old car in California and I’m planning to pick up my new one next week. I want to get it registered as soon as possible, but I’m not sure about the state laws. How do I register my car?
Congrats on the move! If you are picking your new car up from a dealership, they will do everything for you. If you purchase your vehicle through a private sale, you will need to do the legwork yourself.
Here are the steps to follow:
- Make sure your insurance goes into effect on the date you plan to pick up your new car.
- Print out your Kentucky ID card to bring to the DMV as proof of insurance..
- Both you and the seller need to sign the back of the title in front of a public notary.
- If the seller has lost the original title, they will need to complete the TC96-182 form from the DMV website.
- Bring the title, your driver’s license, proof of insurance, and method of payment to the DMV.
That is all you need to do!
Since you are getting a new car, make sure you get the best rate and the right coverages. Kentucky is known to have more wild turkeys and deer per capita than anywhere else in the country. And believe it or not, a collision with a wild turkey can total your car! Make sure you have full coverage on your policy if possible.
The easiest way to do this is with the Jerry app. We’ll get you customized quotes from over 50 insurance companies in seconds! That way, all you need to do is choose the policy or provider that works best for you.
Congrats again, and enjoy your new ride!

Should I buy a car with a salvage title for my teen driver?
My wife and I are having a debate. Our daughter is going to turn 16 soon and get her learner’s permit. I want to buy a salvage car, show her how to fix it, and maybe teach her some car maintenance. On the other hand, my wife wants us to get an expensive “newer” car (and take out a loan) because it looks prettier. Who is right?

Why would someone cut the straps on a child's car seat?
Why would an insurance company tell someone to cut the straps on a child's car seat? I saw my neighbor put a car seat in the trash, and she said her claims adjuster told her to do that.
