How can I reattach a car emblem?
I used my dad’s Jaguar last night since he was out of town. Let’s say I borrowed it without exactly getting his permission. Everything was fine, but then my girlfriend broke the emblem off the hood of the car. How can I reattach a car emblem before he gets home?

Oops! Breaking Dad’s car will ruin a night on the town. Jaguar hood ornaments tend to be a little tricky, but you can repair it! If you have the money, the best course of action would be to have a local body shop make this quick repair for you. It should cost around $300 since you still have the hood ornament.
If you are handy and have a friend who can help, you might be able to do it yourself. Just keep in mind that your dad will probably be mad if you cause more damage trying to cover up your original mistake.
To reattach the Jaguar hood ornament, cross your fingers and follow these next steps:
- Get picture cable: You will need a thin steel cable that has crip tubes. This cable is similar to picture cable, and you can find it at your local craft or hardware store.
- Crimp it: Crimp one end of the wire so that it doesn’t move. Crimping means to loop and twist it back on itself.
- Thread it: Remove the base from the car hood. Then with assistance from a friend, push the wire through the retaining cap with the crimp side up. Next, thread through the spring, through the base, through the loop under the emblem, back down through the base, spring, and cap. Then thread it through the loop on your cable. Finally, with tension applied, crimp the other side of the cable and cut.
- Bolt: The last step is to bolt the emblem back in place.
Some YouTube videos will be helpful for you as well. If this doesn’t work, do not try to glue it back on! The odds are that at some point, the glue will loosen, and it can fly off and crack the windshield while your dad is driving.
