How can I protect my leather car seats from sun damage?

What is the best way for me to protect my leather car seats from sun damage? I just bought a new BMW convertible and the Arizona sun is a leather killer! I want to keep my car looking as fresh as possible.

“You will have some great day trips in your new car, but it will be hot! The first step to protect your leather seats is prevention.
Here are a few preventative measures you can take:
  • Install seat covers
  • Condition leather seats regularly
  • Park in the shade whenever possible
  • Use a windshield protection cover (Yes, they are a little dorky, but they work wonders with sun protection and temperature control!)
If the heat has already damaged your leather seats, look into a leather dye and repair kit. You can clean leather with a mixture of equal parts water and vinegar and then rub in a leather dye or a colored balm.
Since you live in such a hot climate, make sure you have a good roadside assistance package. Hot weather has been known to cause cars to overheat and tires to melt!
