How can I protect my car from being keyed?

Recently a couple of my neighbors' cars have been keyed—are there any things I can do to prevent it from happening to me?

Oh no! Although you can’t eliminate all risk of being keyed, there are some ways you can minimize your chances:
  • Don’t leave a spare key in an easy-to-find location
  • Park inside if possible, preferably in a personal garage, building parkade, etc.
  • Park in a well-lit spot
  • Install your car alarm
  • Don’t leave anything in the car if you don’t have to
  • Install an immobilizer
If your car does get keyed or vandalized, you can file a claim with your insurer, provided you have
comprehensive insurance
.
While you’re thinking about keeping your car safe, you should consider getting a general roadside assistance plan.
