How can I prevent rollovers when driving an SUV?
I own an SUV and while I feel they are safer than other cars like sedans and vans, they do have a tendency to rollover. What’s a good way to prevent rollovers when driving an SUV?

Any question about how to be a safer driver is a great question! Yes, an SUV is more likely to rollover than a sedan—partly because it’s taller and narrower. Here are some good ways to prevent rollovers when driving an SUV:
- Load your SUV cautiously so that it’s even on both sides and front to back. This can even out the car’s center of gravity, which can decrease its likelihood to roll over.
- Never drive under the influence of alcohol or any illegal substance.
- Never drive when you’re too tired.
- Drive with caution, especially on rural roads.
- If you’re losing control of your SUV, reduce speed and then pull over until you feel that it’s safe to drive again.
- Have the tires regularly checked and repair/replace balding tires.
It could also be a good idea for SUV drivers to consider enrolling in a defensive driving course.
