How can I insure a salvage car?

A few weeks ago, I bid on a car with a salvage title and won. I have some experience in repairing and rebuilding cars, and I want to restore this one properly—I think I can definitely get it roadworthy again. However, I've heard that getting salvage cars insured can be difficult. How can I insure my salvage car once the repairs are done?

“Kudos to you for taking on a pretty big project! You heard right—but it’s a little more complicated than that, too. You cannot insure a car with a
salvage title
—but when you finish rebuilding the car, you’re eligible for insurance if you can obtain a rebuilt title.
To get a rebuilt title, you have to repair the car to a condition that it passes a state inspection. If the inspection deems the car drivable, you can then change the salvage title to a rebuilt title.
Keep in mind that some
car insurance
companies won’t insure a rebuilt title with proof of a safety inspection, and your rates might be pretty high. As a result, you may need to shop around.

Kudos again, and best of luck!”
