How can I insure a Japanese import car?

I've loved the Nissan Skyline since I saw it in 2 Fast 2 Furious. I just found a great deal on one that I could ship to the U.S., which is basically my dream come true! However, I'm worried about being able to insure it. How do I insure a Japanese import car—is there anything I should know?

To insure a Japanese import car (or any other high-value collectible vehicle), look for a policy that allows agreed or guaranteed value coverage. Usually, this means purchasing
classic car insurance
.
Classic or collector car insurance is one of the only types of
car insurance
that allows drivers to establish a guaranteed value for their vehicle. Put simply, it’s the appraised value of your vehicle and the amount your insurer guarantees they will pay if your car is deemed a total loss due to damage.
Not all classic car policies allow coverage for newer collector vehicles, so you’ll have to do some shopping to find a policy that’ll work for you.
