How can I get my roommate removed from my policy?

Recently, my GEICO insurance went up about 200%. I had a claim for a no-fault accident, but when I called GEICO they said the major reason for the rate hike was adding my roommate, who has multiple claims. They said because he is a licensed driver who lives with me, he needs to be listed on my policy, even if he has his own insurance. Is there any way to remove him?

“Learning your insurance premium has increased is terrible, especially when it’s not from a fault of your own. While it may seem strange or unfair, many
car insurance companies
require that all licensed drivers living in the same household be on a policy.
In some cases, you may be able to exclude a driver from your policy. If excluded, your roommate would have no coverage under your
GEICO
policy, regardless of the situation.
If you’d like to consider this option, speak with GEICO. If you exclude your roommate, your rate will typically decrease.
As insurance agencies base rates on risk, they assume that if you live together, there is some chance of your roommate driving your car. If your roommate drives your car and gets into an accident, your insurance wants to be sure your premium reflects that. If your roommate wasn’t on your policy and got into an accident, your insurance could
deny the claim
.
Should exclusion not be an option, consider shopping around. Insurance companies all have different rules so, you may find a better rate while excluding your roommate.
