How can I get insurance on my new car?

I just bought a 2020 Hyundai Elantra. I'm supposed to pick it up tomorrow, but the dealership says I need insurance. How do I get insurance on my new car?

New cars are great, but having the proper insurance coverage on them is extremely important to protect your new asset. Thankfully, getting insurance on a new car is easy.
If you currently have an active
car insurance
policy, its coverage typically extends automatically to your new car. While this usually lasts between 14 and 30 days, it will cover your new car until you add it to your policy.
Without an existing policy, you need to shop around with insurance companies. Obtain the VIN (vehicle identification number) from your car’s paperwork or your lending contract or call the dealership, as the insurer will require it for a n accurate quote.
With your personal information and the VIN, you can request
car insurance quotes
from several companies. Shopping around is essential to ensure you’re getting the best rate for the coverage you require.

Jerry

Once you find a policy you like, you will want to purchase it. Since you will be picking up your new car tomorrow, you can make the effective date today or tomorrow. After the policy is purchased, your new insurance company will send you
proof of insurance
, which you can give to the dealership at pickup.
