How can I get cat pee out of a car seat?

I had to take my cat to the vet the other week. She wasn't feeling well (plus she hates car rides) and she ended up peeing on the seat. I love her and don't blame her at all, of course—but it doesn't smell very good. My cat is okay now—but how do I get cat pee out of a car seat?

“I’m so sorry that happened, but glad your cat is all right! Cat pee can be a difficult smell to remove from car seats and upholstery due to the ammonia that it contains. However, it’s not impossible! Here are a few options:
  • Buy a spray or cleaner made for cat urine. Since the pee has already dried on the seat, you’ll probably need to use a few different products to remove the smell. Brands like Nature’s Miracle and Arm & Hammer make pet sprays and cleaners designed to target odors. You may also want to use a steam cleaner for carpets or furniture to help remove the smell.
  • Apply the product. After application, let it sit for 15 minutes.
  • Blot the stain. This will help remove some of the urine.
  • Let dry completely. Once it’s dried, you can see if the smell is gone.
If the smell is still lingering, you may want to consider taking your vehicle to a business that specializes in detailing. They’ll likely have more targeted solutions to help clean your car seat or remove the smell.
If you want to make sure your car is protected for any eventuality, it might be a good idea to take another look at your current

policy while you’re waiting for the cleaner to dry.
