How can I get auto insurance without owning a car?

I borrow and rent a lot of vehicles, but I live in a city and have no need to actually buy a car of my own. Is there a way I can get my own car insurance without actually having my own vehicle? Is this even possible?

Good question! To get auto insurance without owning a car, you’ll want to look into getting a
non-owner car insurance
policy, which is a very smart investment for someone who regularly borrows or rents. Almost all of the most popular insurance companies offer some sort of non-owner policy, and can provide you with
state minimum coverage
as long as you:
  • have a valid driver’s license.
  • do not own a vehicle in your name.
  • ensure that no one in your household owns a vehicle that you might have access to.
Generally, you can search for non-owner car insurance in the same way as any other car insurance. Shop around by reaching out to companies, checking their websites, and using quote comparison tools.
