:- File your claim as soon as possible in order to move the process along. Getting a new car can take a while, so getting started quickly will help you in the long run.
- Get your totaled car towed to an auto body shop. Your insurer might require you to use a specific location, so check with your insurer about possible shops.
- Agree on a payout amount. Your insurance company will determine the actual cash value (ACV) of your car. If you think it’s too low and you have proof that you kept the car in excellent condition, you may be able to negotiate a higher payout, depending on the company.
- Sign your car’s title over to the insurance company.
- Send any requested documents to your insurance adjuster.
- Sign a settlement agreement.
- Wait for your check to arrive in the mail.
