How can I fix hail damage on my car hood?

We had a pretty big hail storm hit our city the other day, and I ended up with a ton of dents in the hood of my car. How can I fix hail damage myself on my car hood?

I’m sorry to hear about the damage to your car! If it isn’t too extensive, hail damage is something you can fix at home.
There are a few different techniques and tools you can use to fix your car hood and repair the hail damage:
  • Heating and cooling the dents. Use a heat gun or hair dryer to apply heat to the dents on a low/medium setting. Then apply dry ice directly to each dent. Theoretically, the heat should expand the metal of your hood and the cold should pop everything back into place.
  • Use pushing tools. These kits can be bought from most hardware stores or body shops, and are designed specifically for you to be able to push a dent back into place.
  • Use pulling tools. This is another kit you can buy rather easily, but it performs oppositely. You can pull the dents out using the tools found in this kit.
Keep in mind that doing any of these yourself could lead to possibly damaging the paint on your car’s hood or even making the dents worse! Make sure to read all the instructions on your kits fully before attempting to fix the hail damage.
If the damage is pretty extensive, or you’re not entirely comfortable repairing it yourself, then it’s always a safe bet to have a body shop fix the hail damage instead. And if you have
comprehensive coverage
, then your insurance might cover this expense.
If you’re looking to purchase comprehensive coverage, then look no further than the
Jerry
app. For any future hail damage that may occur, Jerry can find you a policy that suits your specific needs—with none of the hassle, stress, or legwork usually involved in insurance shopping.
Hoping this helped, and you’re able to get the hail damage fixed as soon as possible!
