How can I fix a large dent in my car door?

While rollerblading down the driveway, my oldest son crashed right into the side of my Toyota. Now there’s a pretty large dent in the door. Is there any way I can fix a large dent in my car door?

Fixing a large dent in your car door can be a tricky process, and more often than not you will be able to get the worst of the dent out, but you may still deal with some misshapenness. If you want the area to look good as new, you should seek out the help of a professional.
If you’re set on repairing yourself, you can fix a large dent in your car door by following these steps:
  • Step 1: Get a dent puller, hairdryer, dent repair kit, and microfiber towels.
  • Step 2: Park your car on even ground.
  • Step 3: Determine whether the dented area is metal or plastic. Since it is on your car door, you’re most likely dealing with a metal dent.
  • Step 4: Heat the dented area with your hairdryer and attach the dent puller when the area is warm.
  • Step 5: Pull the dent per the instructions with your dent puller and when the dent has been reduced switch to your dent pulling kit.
  • Step 6: Wipe the area with your microfiber towel and locate the deepest point in the remaining dent. If it is severe, continue with the following steps, if not, you’re all finished!
  • Step 7: Use the hot glue provided with your dent kit to fill the area and allow the glue to dry for at least five minutes.
  • Step 8: Attach your puller to the glue and turn the dial to slowly pull the dent.
  • Step 9: Remove the leftover glue and your dent should look a lot better.
If you found that your dent was just a little too large for an at-home remedy, take it into the auto body repair shop to have the dent dealt with by the pros.
