How can I find out who someone’s car insurance company is?
I got into a car accident. I tried to get the at-fault driver’s car insurance information, but she refused to provide it. How can I find out if someone has car insurance?
Request help from the police: If you recorded the license plate number of the at-fault driver, provide this to the police so they can run a search.
Visit your local Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV): You will need to provide your contact information and the reason for the request to the DMV. If approved, the DMV will give you the other person’s insurance company provider.
Check with your own car insurance company: If you can provide any information about the other driver or a copy of the police report, your insurance may be able to find the other driver’s information.
Keep in mind: Once you have identified the other party’s insurer and insurance information, your insurance company will contact the at-fault driver’s insurance provider for you.
