How can I find out if my cousin still has car insurance?

Is it possible to find out if someone still has car insurance? My cousin Edna is in assisted living but I know her son is driving her car around. I am worried he will get into an accident, and she will be sued even though she doesn't know anything about it. Is there any way to make sure she wouldn’t be liable?

That is a challenging situation—and kudos to you for looking out for your cousin. Luckily, there are a few ways to determine if she has insurance.
You may want to start just by asking her. She may have permitted her son to use the car, or he may have moved it over to his own
car insurance
policy.
Since she is in assisted living, did she give power of attorney to anyone? If so, contact them and ask. They will know who her insurance company is and if her policy is still active. They are also the only ones with the authority to call the insurance company to ask questions.
Aside from these two options, there isn’t much else you can do. The DMV may know if the car is insured, but they usually only release this information in the event of an accident and you would usually need a policy report.
If her son needs to find his own insurance policy for the car, one easy way for him to get coverage is to download the
Jerry
app. Jerry will shop prices for free with over 50 insurance providers, and will deliver customized quotes straight to his phone!
Best of luck with everything—hopefully this has a simple resolution!
