How can I find my car insurance policy number?
What’s the best way to figure out my car insurance policy number? My partner and I were out running some errands and parked on the street. We were walking back to the car and saw another driver hit ours while trying to parallel park. We need to exchange insurance information but do not know where to find our policy number.

Your car insurance policy number should be listed on your insurance card. It is typically eight to 10 digits long.
If you and your partner have more than one vehicle, all of your cars’ policy numbers might be listed on the same card. The only difference would be the last digit.
Another insurance number on your insurance card is the vehicle identification number (VIN), which is 17 characters long. Please note that this is entirely different than your car insurance policy number, and an insurance company cannot use this number to look up your policy.
In instances like this, check with the other driver to see if they have
liability insurance
, which would cover the damage they caused. The good news is it’s required in almost every state! So the driver should have it.If they don’t, check to see if you have
comprehensive coverage
