My car was hit while I was at the gym. Luckily, the cameras in the parking lot caught the license plate of the car that did it. I’ve already filed a police report and insurance claim, but I’m getting anxious and want to get in contact with the other guy’s company to find out what’s going on. I’m sorry to hear that your car was involved in a hit and run, but it seems like you’re luckier than most people in that position. Since you have the license plate number and you’ve already filed a police report and insurance claim, you have just cause to request the other individual’s
car insurance
information.You can request it from either the police or DMV. Either way, you will need to provide the police report and proof of identification when doing so.
You should know, the police and DMV are very reluctant to give this information out, as it is legally protected. In fact, they have the right to refuse your request entirely. That’s why it’s important to come prepared with details and documentation to support your case.
On a more positive note, you don’t actually need the other driver’s insurance information. Your insurance company should take care of getting your claim settled for you.
