How can I file a complaint about my car insurance company?

I filed a claim with my car insurance company months ago and every time I try to follow up they keep saying they will get to it. I feel like I’m just being strung along, and their customer service has been absolutely no help. Is there anywhere else I can file a complaint with people who will actually listen?

It is troublesome to hear that your
car insurance
company is taking so long to process your claim and are being dismissive of your complaints. If you feel they are acting in bad faith (as appears to be the case), there are actions you can take to make sure your insurance company is held responsible.
The first thing you’re going to want to do is to keep written records of all your interactions with the insurance company. Using email, or written correspondence, is a smart way to avoid any he-said-she-said situations and can help your case moving forward.
The second thing you’re going to want to do is speak with your agent, adjuster’s manager, or anyone who ranks above them. Voicing your complaint to the highest authority within the company will hopefully resolve the situation. If you have already done this, and the insurance company took no further action to process your claim, you may want to contact your state’s insurance commissioner.
Contacting your state’s insurance commissioner should be the last thing you do to get the situation resolved. The insurance commissioner is a public official who regulates the insurance industry in your state and has the power to investigate insurance companies and take the necessary steps to resolve any problems. Depending on your state, you may be able to file a complaint online and the commissioner’s office may reach out for more details before contacting your car insurance company.
At this point, you have done all that should be necessary to get your claim settled and ensure your insurance company is being held responsible. Once the dispute has been settled, you are most likely going to want to switch car insurance companies. Consider using
