How can I dye car seats?

The seats in my car were very light grey, almost white. I have been wearing these new indigo jeans, and now my seats are stained blue! Instead of cleaning the seat, I like the color and would rather just dye the whole thing. How can I dye car seats?

Yes, you can dye your car seats. And indigo would make a great color!
First, you will want to look for a paint that is specifically for fabric and vinyl. You can find countless color choices both at hardware stores and auto supply stores. The easiest way to paint the seats will be the spray can options.
Here is a list of materials you will need to get started:
  • Paint color of choice
  • Latex gloves
  • Several plastic drop cloths
  • Painter’s tape
  • Stiff paintbrush
Next, just follow these three simples steps: 1. Tape it off: Using the tape and plastic, tape off any area in your car that you don’t want paint on. 2. Spray: Put on your gloves and spray the seat with the paint evenly. Consistency is key. 3. Brush it: Use your paintbrush and brush the dye into the seat as you go. Once you have the color and consistency you like, let the seats dry per the dry time specified in the paint instructions.
