How can I dry out my wet car carpet?
I had a gallon of water in the trunk of my car and at some point during my drive it spilled out into my trunk. Now the carpeting in my trunk is absolutely soaked. How can I dry out wet car carpet?

I’m sorry to hear that you’re dealing with water in your trunk. Water in your car is never a good thing. It can lead to the growth of mold, mildew, and bacteria, which causes very unpleasant odors.
Thankfully, you can dry out your wet car carpet to avoid these issues with a few simple steps:
- Park your car in a safe, dry area and open your trunk. Parking outdoors will give you the best results, but a garage can too.
- Take anything wet out of your trunk and set them to the side to dry.
- Grab a towel and absorb as much water as you can. Don’t use paper towels as they won’t absorb the water fully. They can also leave an unpleasant paper film on your car carpet.
- If you can, use a fan to blow air into your car. Small portable fans from your local department store will do the trick if you don’t have anything bigger on hand.
- Get a wet-dry vacuum cleaner. This type of vacuum cleaner is designed to pick up liquids and is the fastest and most effective way of drying your car carpet. Use it to suck up any of the remaining liquid.
