Having your
car’s carpet
cleaned professionally can be expensive. Fortunately, there are cheap, budget-friendly alternatives that use common household items. Before you can start cleaning, gather the following:
- A vacuum or a broom
- A bucket
- A spray bottle
- A nylon-bristled brush
- Microfiber cloths or soft towels
- White vinegar
- Water
- Dish soap
- A hairdryer
Once you have all the supplies handy, begin to clean using the following steps:
- Remove loose items from the car like garbage, personal belongings, and floor mats.
- Vacuum the vehicle, including any removed floor mats. If you do not have a vacuum, use a broom or brush to clean as best you can.
- Make the cleaning solution in a bucket by mixing one gallon of hot water, one cup of white vinegar, and a bit of dish soap.
- Fill a spray bottle with the solution and liberally apply the solution to the carpet without soaking it.
- Let sit for 10 minutes, so the solution can be adequately absorbed.
- Scrub the carpet in a circular motion using a nylon-bristled brush.
- Rinse the carpet to remove the solution by dabbing a cloth or towel damp with clean water.
- Dry the carpet using towels and a hairdryer.
- Let the car air out by parking in the sun and opening the doors.
