How can I check to see what car insurance coverage I have?

My parents and I have the same car insurance company and we recently got into a discussion about who pays more, but I realized I have no idea what my policy details are. How can I check to see what coverages I have?

Answer
To find out what car insurance coverages you have, you will need to locate your policy’s declaration page.
The declaration page will have the following listed:
  • Named insured and any additional drivers
  • The vehicles insured
  • Policy number
  • The effective dates of coverage
  • The types of insurance and your coverage limits
  • Any supplemental coverages you have purchased
If you can’t find the declaration page, see if you can access it online or give your car insurance company a call to request a copy.
Now that you’re already comparing coverages and cost with your parents, also consider using Jerry to compare quotes from other insurance companies. Keep the coverage you need and find the savings with Jerry, they’ll even help you switch and cancel your old policy!
