How can I check to see if my car insurance is valid?

I have to get my vehicle reinspected but I’m not sure if my insurance is up to date. How can I check to see if my car insurance is still valid?

There are a few ways you can check to see if your
car insurance
is valid. The easiest way is to check online with your car insurance company or give them a call.
If you do not know who your insurance company is, you do have a few other options for finding out your insurance status. Start by:
  • Checking your bank statements to see if you can find the name of your insurer
  • Searching your email for your policy documents
If you cannot find the information in your email or bank statements, reach out to your Secretary of State. This may seem like an escalation, but the Secretary of State often maintains records regarding car insurance.
Finally, if the other methods are not successful, you can request a new car insurance quote. This may seem counterintuitive if you already have car insurance, but when you request a quote, agents will run a report that shows your current insurer and whether your policy has lapsed or not.
If you discover you are not currently insured, please stay off the roads to avoid potential legal problems from
driving while uninsured
and purchase a new policy as soon as possible.
