How can I charge an electric car in France?

My boyfriend and I are planning on taking a trip to Paris to see the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, and other sites. We’re really excited—plus we’ll get to rent an EV, which we’ve never driven before. But I’m wondering, how easy is it to charge an electric car in France? Are there charging ports? And how much will it cost us?

Charging an electric car
in France
is probably a little easier than it is in the U.S. Despite being a much smaller country, France has 30,000 or more charging ports that can be located across its countryside, making it easy for drivers, urban drivers especially, to find the juice they need to stay on the road. If you’re going to be in Paris, you’ll be just fine—but you’ll want to be ready to pay for charging your EV.
You and your boyfriend will need to purchase a payment card in order to use the EV terminals on the charging ports. In France, most of the charging ports are run by two brands: Izivia or KiWhi, depending on where you’re at. Both of these companies also make payment touchless, meaning that you can use an app on your smartphone. Also, be sure to spot the connector type and compatible charging stations that your vehicle can use—your rental car company can assist with this process.
While you’re both enjoying your vacation, make sure to map out a route that sets aside time for charging your EV, which will probably take a few hours. And with that much time on your hands, you might try downloading the
