How can I change the transmission oil in my Toyota Camry?

I have an old Camry from 1997 and lately, I’ve been getting worried about a burning smell coming from the engine. My grandpa says I could probably use some more transmission oil. I think it would make him proud if I did it myself, so how can I change the transmission oil in my Toyota Camry?

Taking care of your car maintenance yourself is something to be proud of! Changing the transmission oil in your Toyota Camry is something that even a novice can do, so don’t feel too intimidated.
To get started you will need new transmission oil (check your manual if you aren’t sure what kind to get) and a pan to drain the oil into.
Once you have the materials gathered, follow these steps to change your transmission oil:
  • Place the drain pan beneath the transmission drain plug and remove the plug. Allow the oil to drain for a few minutes.
  • Once the oil stops flowing, replace the plug and look for the fluid replacement opening. This is usually on the side of the transmission.
  • Pour in your new transmission oil and check the level using the dipstick. Once the dipstick indicates your oil level is where it needs to be, close the plug back up and your transmission oil has been properly changed!
While you’re waiting for the oil to drain, take that time and find out how much you can save on
