It’s always a great idea to have extra car keys if you find yourself locked out. However, they aren’t much use if their battery is dead, so testing their efficacy from time to time is a must.
There are three different types of BMW
key fobs: If you have a smart key or comfort access key, follow these quick steps to change your BMW car key’s battery:
From your local department store or auto shop, purchase a new CR2032 battery.
Press the tab on the key fob to release the valet key.
Insert the key or a flathead screwdriver into the exposed access port and pry the battery cover off.
Carefully remove the battery and insert the new one.
Close your key fob and replace the valet key.
Should you have a non-comfort access key, the key fob cover won’t open and recharges while you drive. You can use that key for the time being to ensure it gets a full charge.
Now that you have successfully changed your car key battery or recharged it, you can rest assured that your replacement key will always be there for you. If you’d like more car-related peace of mind, check out the Jerry
