How can I change my car insurance to a new car?

I have Allstate right now, and I have my eye on a new Jeep. How do I transfer my car insurance to a new vehicle?

To transfer your
car insurance
to a new Jeep, you’ll need to call your insurance agent or change your policy online, if that’s an option.
We recommend that you contact your insurance company before buying a new car. That way, your agent can:
  • Give you an insurance quote for the new car
  • Let you know if you will need additional coverage
  • Coordinate adding your new car to the policy and taking your old car off the policy so that you’re covered on the day of the purchase
If you are financing or leasing your new car, you will typically be required to show proof of an active policy before you can drive it off the lot.
On the other hand, if it’s an impulse purchase, be sure to notify your insurance company as soon as possible. Different carriers have different deadlines for notifying them about a new vehicle, but you want to make sure that your coverage gets transferred right away.
If you get a new car, you should also consider shopping around for insurance.
