How can I become a licensed car insurance agent in California?

I live in California and was curious, how can I become a licensed car insurance agent?

The first thing you need to do is identify which insurance license you will need. For selling
car insurance
, you will need a Property and Casualty Insurance License. Now that you have identified the type of license required, you will need to complete the following steps:
  • Step 1: Pass a background check and provide your fingerprints to the state.
  • Step 2: Complete the pre-licensing education requirements (40 hours total with at least 12 hours of ethics and insurance code education).
  • Step 3: Pass the California state-level insurance licensing exam.
  • Step 4: Submit your licensing application to the state for approval.
Once your application has been approved, you will be a licensed insurance agent able to sell car insurance! From here, you can apply to work directly for an insurance company or you can work for a company like
