How big is an electric car battery?
I’m currently gathering information to help me determine which EV (electric vehicle) I want to buy and I’m wondering how big an electric car battery is? Thanks for the help!

An early welcome to the
electric car
club! Happy to have you. Electric car batteries come in a variety of sizes starting as small as 17.6 kWh which will get you about 58 miles per charge to Tesla’s Model S/Model X at 100 kWh which offers you about 300 miles per charge. However, Tesla might soon be further down the list of largest batteries. If production goes according to plan, these will be the top five biggest electric car batteries by the end of 2022:
- Tesla Model S/Model X is the current leader with cars on the road at 100 kWh offering 300 miles per charge
- Mercedes-Benz EQS is set to launch this fall at 115 kWh offering roughly 350 miles per charge.
- Lucid Air is new to the scene and has been able to maximize their 118 kWh battery to a record-setting 520 miles per charge!
- Rivian R1 T/R1 S are large and in charge. They both pack 136 kWh pushing 316 miles per charge.
- GMC Hummer EV is set to be the biggest of big. Once a notorious gas guzzler, the new Hummer has an estimated 200 kWh with a full charge expecting to exceed 350 miles.
So the question is, are you looking to simply scoot around town, or are you wanting to do some gas-free road-tripping and/or serious cargo hauling?
