How are magnets used in electric cars?

If I remember correctly, I think magnets are used in motor systems. I was wondering how magnets are used in electric cars?

Yes, you’re right! Magnets are used to help make electric motors run. In electric vehicles which are powered by a motor—as opposed to an engine—the magnets play a large role in keeping the car going.
In a typical motor, the magnets surround a central coil and cause it to spin. The electric current running through the coil repels the magnetic force of the magnets surrounding it so it spins. This is a slightly simplified version of what happens in an electric car however, the basic components are the same.
Electric cars often make use of rare-earth magnets because of their strong magnetic field, hence their increased efficiency in producing electric energy. Since these materials are considerably rare, some EV companies are trying to find alternatives.
