Yikes! Let’s jump straight into this for anyone reading who’s actually stuck in their car. If your seatbelt is stuck, try all of the following first:
Check the belt buckle to see if it’s obstructed. A coin or some other small object getting lodged into the buckle can prevent it from operating, and that’s more common than you might think Make sure the button is fully pushed in so it releases, and try to wiggle the latch a little while pressing it in Disengage the auto-lock feature by pulling and releasing the belt. This is the feature that makes your seatbelt lock in place snugly when you step on the brakes. With your car in park, take your foot off the brakes and pull the belt to loosen it. Is the belt tangled up and jammed? You may need to straighten it out to get it loose
If you’re not stuck in the car, you have way more options. The first thing you should do is the same as our first suggestion earlier: check to see if anything is lodged into the buckle mechanism. Coins, guitar picks, and other tiny objects have been known to get stuck in there.
If you can’t find any foreign objects jammed in there, try using some WD-40. Let it sit for a few minutes, then see if the seat belt will operate normally.
If necessary, you can take the buckle apart, but only if you’re extremely careful and do so with patience. Seat belt buckles have lots of tiny moving parts that can go flying if you take the cover off too aggressively. This may be a job for a mechanic (who might charge you for labor, but it’s a very simple procedure).
That WD-40 trick will work in most cases of stuck seat belts. And hey, while you’re letting it sit, why not download the
