Have there been any Mini Cooper S recalls?

I just saw a used Cooper S listed that looks like it might be right up my alley. Before I make an offer, though, could you let me know if the Cooper S has ever been the subject of any recalls?

It’s great that you’re doing some research on the used car you’re interested in before you make an offer. To answer your question, yes, the
Mini Cooper S
has been the subject of at least two recalls:
  • Recall 20V283000 in May 2020: An issue with the rollover sensor within the Cooper S’s airbag control unit (ACU) could cause the airbags not to deploy in the event of a rollover crash. This could increase the chances of injury or death for vehicle occupants.
  • Recall 19V634000 in August 2019: The rear side trim panels may not have a crash pad properly installed. The lack of side-impact crash pads could result in an increased risk of injury or death in a side-impact crash.
Note that the recalls listed above were aimed, specifically, at the Cooper S. The
Cooper
, as a whole, has been the subject of at least 19 recalls over the years, so depending on the specific model you’re considering, you may need to check out some additional information.
For example, the
Cooper S Countryman
has 2 recalls of its own. To find out more about recalls for your Mini Cooper, check out the
National Highways Transportation Safety Administration’s (NHTSA)
website at nhtsa.gov.
