Ford Explorer seating: How many people does it fit?
I just had a baby, so my husband and I are looking for a bigger car. I was wondering about the 2022 Ford Explorer seating. Does it really seat six people, or does it have one of those tiny third rows?

We’re happy to hear your family is growing! And we totally know what you mean about the third row. Some of the people designing modern three-row vehicles don’t really try sitting back there, and it shows!
The 2022 Ford Explorer’s seating options both have a small third-row bench. One option includes two captain’s chairs in the second row with space between them, and the other option replaces those chairs with a three-seat bench. This gives the Explorer six or seven seats, respectively.
Having said that, the third row is a bit cramped and more suited for younger kids. Teenagers usually gravitate toward the third row for some reason, but they might be reluctant in the Explorer. Of course, that’s not going to be a problem for your family for a good 10 to 12 years, and you might have moved on to a new car by then anyway.
Something you might struggle with a bit is cargo space. A modern three-wheel jogger stroller likely won’t fit in the Ford Explorer with its third row up, let alone with a diaper bag and a small load of groceries.
The Ford Explorer’s seating is good, as long as you’re willing to spend most of your practical time with the third row down. Extended road trips with six or seven passengers and luggage won’t be possible, but day trips to the amusement park? Pile into the Explorer!
