Does your credit affect your car insurance?

I don't have a great credit history. I've been working to improve my credit, but it's still not great. Does this have an impact on my car insurance?

“Your credit score affects your
car insurance
. When car insurance companies determine a rate for an insured, they look at several factors. Your credit score is one of many that insurers analyze to come to a decision on your rate.
If you are working to improve your credit score, you may start to see a decrease in your car insurance rates. However, if other factors are influencing your rate, you may not see a reduction at all.
For example, if you don’t have a
clean driving record
and you have bad credit, your rate will be high. Similarly, if you’re a young driver with no driving record and no credit history, your rate will also be high.
The best thing you can do is continually shop around as you improve your score. Each insurance company determines rates differently. All factors are weighed the same, so you may find a company that is offering a
more affordable rate
.
If you can’t find a better price now, compare rates every six to 12 months by using the
Jerry
app. By doing so, you can ensure you’re getting the best rate as your credit improves.”
