Does USAA home insurance cover mold?
My dishwasher made a weird sound last week and leaked a ton of water everywhere. Now, I just found mold growing in the cabinet next to it. Will USAA home insurance cover mold?

Mold is tricky, but it sounds like your USAA home insurance may cover the mold damage.
If your dishwasher was in good condition and unexpectedly overflowed or discharged water, you should have coverage under your
USAA
policy for the damage and mold it caused. However, if your dishwasher was leaking continuously and the mold is due to neglect or lack of maintenance, you wouldn’t have coverage. Most providers will deny coverage to long-term mold situations when the cause is negligence by the owner. Also excluded from most policies—including USAA—is mold due to natural disasters like storms and earthquakes.
For confirmation of your coverage, you’ll want to reach out to USAA directly and review your policy’s terms and conditions. Your policy will list whether mold is excluded and if you have an endorsement for limited fungi, wet or dry rot, or bacteria.
