Does the Volvo XC90 have manual transmission?
We’re looking to get a Volvo SUV—the XC90 in particular—but we love the thrill of going gear-to-gear on the open road. Does the Volvo XC90 have manual transmission?

Unfortunately, the Volvo XC90 does not come with manual transmission. Instead, it comes standard with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
Even without a stick-shift, the XC90 is a luxurious ocean liner of an SUV, with a 2.0 L turbocharged 4 cylinder engine that produces 250 horsepower. It features accurate steering, and the steering wheel has a sense of heft that is just right. The cabin feels pleasantly insulated on the road, as well.
If your heart is set on a manual transmission SUV, there are some options—but not many. Here are some relatively comparable SUVs or crossovers that feature manual transmission:
- A 2022Mini Clubmansports a 6 speed manual gearbox along with a 2.0 L turbocharged 4 cylinder engine.
- The 2022Subaru Crosstrekis a compact crossover that features a 6 speed automatic mated to a 2.0 L 4 cylinder engine; the size difference between the XC90 and a Crosstrek is pretty evident, though.
- The 2022Ford Broncois about as far as you can get from a Volvo XC90, but it is an SUV—it boasts a 7 speed manual transmission paired with a 2.3 L turbocharged 4 cylinder engine.
