Does the Kia Optima Hybrid have any active recalls?

I was talking to my friend about how excited I am to sign the lease on my new car (a Kia Optima Hybrid), but after our conversation, I’m more hesitant. She told me she knew of recalls on a bunch of them, which I haven’t heard anything about. Are there any recalls on the Kia Optima Hybrid?

With a mileage equivalent of over 100 mpg, the
Kia Optima Hybrid
is a car worth bragging about—but your friend wasn’t exactly wrong. Select models of Optima Hybrids made between 2017 and 2018 have been recalled as the result of a manufacturing issue. Specifically, in some hybrid models, the connecting rod bearings inside the car’s engine may wear prematurely, causing undue damage to your drivetrain.
The consequence of these connecting rod bearings aging prematurely is serious engine damage. Driving with a damaged engine increases your risk of stalling while driving or even
engine fires
—both of which are dangerous malfunctions. The solution? A total engine replacement.
The good news is, recall-related repairs are always free. The even better news? For drivers who already own an Optima Hybrid affected by this recall, notification letters were mailed back in November of 2021, meaning that it’s unlikely the model you’re leasing will affect any active recall.
