Does the Ford Explorer come in manual transmission?

I’ve only seen automatic Ford Explorers recently. Do they make Ford Explorers with manual transmission?

Unfortunately, the answer is no.
Ford
stopped making Ford Explorers with manual transmission back in 2005.
But that doesn’t necessarily mean they won’t bring it back. Ford dropped manual transmissions for the Explorers back in the mid-nineties when the SUV was in its second generation, before bringing it back in 2002 for the third generation of Explorers.
Manual transmissions were dropped entirely for the fourth generation Explorers in 2006, but Ford has met manual enthusiasts halfway by introducing a SelectShift option in recent Explorer models. SelectShift is a “manumatic” feature that allows you to shift gears manually on an automatic transmission.
Here’s what types of transmissions have been made available in all generations of the Ford Explorer:
  • 1st generation, 1991–1994: 5-speed manual, 4-speed automatic
  • 2nd generation, 1995–2003: 5-speed manual, 4-speed automatic, 5-speed automatic
  • 3rd generation, 2002–2005: 5-speed manual, 5-speed automatic
  • 4th generation, 2006–2010: 5-speed automatic, 6-speed automatic
  • 5th generation, 2011–2019: 6-speed automatic, 6-speed SelectShift automatic
  • 6th generation, 2020–present: 10-speed SelectShift automatic
Stick shift enthusiasts can only hope that Ford decides to reintroduce manual transmission on the Ford Explorer in the coming years, if only because they tend to be less costly to repair and insure than automatic cars.
