Does the color of your car reduce your chances of being in an accident?

My car was totaled in an accident, and so I'm currently in the market for a new one. Luckily no one was hurt in the accident, but it's been very distressing to deal with, and I want to do everything I can to avoid going through anything similar again. I've heard that some colors of car can make accidents more or less likely—so there a color that will reduce my chances of being in an accident?

“I’m so sorry to hear about your accident; I can imagine how distressing it must have been. There isn’t one color of car that can reduce your chances of being in an accident—but there are certain colors that will make you more visible to other drivers.
Driving a light-colored vehicle can make you more visible to other drivers on the road, especially at night. Top-ranking vehicle colors that are easiest to see on the road include:
  • Yellow
  • White
  • Cream
  • Beige
On the flip side, vehicle colors most involved in an accident include:
  • Black
  • Silver
  • Blue
  • Red
Driving a car in a light color doesn’t necessarily mean that you won’t get into an accident. Accidents are more likely to be caused by distracted driving or bad choices than by vehicle color, so the most important thing you can do is to keep your eyes on the road.
Getting into an accident can be a genuinely traumatic experience, and it makes sense that you’d want to avoid it whenever possible. You can’t control other drivers’ actions or completely eliminate the risk of an accident; the best thing you can do is be a safe, alert driver with a good
car insurance
policy. Protecting yourself will at least reduce the possibility of an accident and how it may affect you.

Best of luck with the repairs and the new vehicle—and feel free to get whatever color car you like best.”
